The total number of TAs working in English schools is down for the first time ever – but encouraging signs from the MITA project show how a strategic focus on TAs can unlock their potential.

Jane Brook - Consultant, JB SEN Consultancy
Location: East Anglia, South-east England
I was the SENCo of a mainstream secondary school in Essex for over 20 years. As part of this role, I managed and deployed a team of over 30 TAs. I have an excellent understanding of the legitimate barriers to effective TA deployment and practice. I have worked with staff on the effective use of TAs in the classroom. I have taught across all secondary year groups, before taking up the post of SEN Director for the TKAT Academy chain, working with primary and secondary schools to review SEN and develop teaching and learning.
I have worked with schools to deliver SEN training and have advised on a number of SEN projects. I have an advanced Diploma in SEN and Pyschology and a Postgraduate Certificate in Specific Learning Difficulties. I am also a Specialist Leader in Education. I feel inclusion is at the heart of an outstanding school.
I am available to deliver the Maximising the Practice of TAs training in East Anglia and across the south-east of England.
