The total number of TAs working in English schools is down for the first time ever – but encouraging signs from the MITA project show how a strategic focus on TAs can unlock their potential.

Martin Davis - Asst SENDCo, Meols Cop High School
Location: North-west England
I am entering my sixth year of teaching currently within a successful LA maintained secondary school based in Sefton. I started my career as a history teacher and later became acting Head of Department. I then moved into pastoral work by becoming Head of Year for three years. I have recently been appointed Assistant SENDCo and have completed the National SENDCo award.
My main interests are developing CPD opportunities for teaching assistants, as well as ensuring that schools are implementing systems to meet the needs of all students within their care. I am passionate about both the MITA and MPTA projects and believe that they offer schools practical and achievable strategies that ensure effective TA deployment.
I am available to deliver the Maximising the Practice of TAs training across North-west England.
