Research indicates that quality feedback on learning and the development of metacognition skills can boost pupil attainment. Our Improving pupil independence course provides TAs with the skills to scaffold learning and help pupils become confident, independent learners.

Based on the acclaimed book, The TA's Guide to Effective Interaction, this course introduces TAs to our scaffolding framework, and provides practical strategies and reflective activities. The course is suitable for teaching assistants, learning support assistants and other classroom support staff who support learning in all settings and at all stages.

Planning TA Training for your school:

Our TA training has been developed to provide a common standard of understanding for what defines a good learning experience, and to help redefine TAs' in-class interaction to promote metacognitive skills, and scaffold independence. It is normally delivered within our wider MITA Leadership programme.

We recommend Leaders explore the school's readiness using our short checklist, and a designated Leader attend each session.

Schools may wish to explore our Webinar materials, organise an additional session to work with Teachers and Leaders, or link our MPTA training with a Teaching Assistant deployment review.
